A major cable fault in the SSE network, left Allt Dearg struggling to export during August.

The 33kV connection between Allt Dearg and the main substation in Lochgilphead, suffered a major fault on Sunday 11th August.  The original cable across the 200 year old Crinan Canal between Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig had failed.  SSE mobilised their own internal specialist cabling team and brought in experts in directional drilling, Nicol of Skene, to lay a new ducted cable crossing under the A83 and Crinan Canal.  During the repairs, the maximum level of power export from Allt Dearg was reduced to 50% to prevent overload of the restricted cable network.  The repair works were completed on Saturday 31st August, and Allt Dearg were able to resume full export power.
