Visiting Allt Dearg & Srondoire Community Wind Farms

Visiting the Wind Farms -  We provide free visitor car parking at Stronachullin Farm on the first Friday - Saturday - Sunday of every month.  You are welcome to park your car here during daylight hours, the security gate will be locked overnight.  Cars are parked entirely at the car owner's risk.  Please be aware that the road is in constant use and please take care not to obstruct the roadways with your parked car.

Grab a PDF Site Map here.

The Walk - You are welcome to walk or cycle up the wind farm access track most days of the year.  Please stay well clear of any works being carried out on site and be alert for vehicles on the tracks. The gradients are gentle at the bottom but the track does get steeper further up.  There are no loops on the lower section of track - so the walk is up and down.

Stronachullin Farm to Robert’s Bridge – 1 ½ miles

Stronachullin Farm to T4 and view to the west – 3 ½ miles

Stronachullin Farm to T9 and view to the south – 4 ½ miles

The mobile phone signal coverage is patchy on the lower sections of track.

Ice falling from the turbines is a risk in cold weather - Please Be Alert to this DANGER.

CYCLISTS - PLEASE TAKE IT EASY - YOU ARE A VERY LONG WAY FROM HELP IF YOU HIT THE DIRT OR WORSE !

During the spring lambing and wild bird breeding season, please keep your dogs under close control and keep your distance around livestock and wildlife.  Please keep to the main track and take your litter home. Shooting takes place during Autumn and Winter, at these times and when maintenance operations at the wind farm pose a risk to the public, the track may be closed to public access and the pedestrian gate chained shut.  In the interests of safety, please respect this request not to use the track - we try to keep site closure to an absolute minimum.

Windy Bus Tour -  We are taking a break.

Special visits - If you would like to arrange a special visit for educational or community purposes, please get in touch and we will help out if we can.

Getting There - The main site entrance to Allt Dearg and Sròndoire is at Stronachullin Farm, which is marked with a large black roadside sign with a stag and some turbines,  and is about 4 miles drive south of Ardrishaig on the A83 heading to Tarbert.  Post Code for you satellite navigation is PA30 8ET (this is not exact but is close enough).
