The total direct community benefit delivered in cash paid out by Allt Dearg Community Wind Farm to the Allt Dearg Educational Trust and the Ardrishaig Community Trust has topped the symbolic £ 1/2 million mark, after nearly three years of wind farm operation.

What differentiates Allt Dearg  from other commercial wind farms, is that it is locally owned and controlled.  The wider direct community benefit arising from the wind farm operation is delivered via the Allt Dearg Educational Trust, which supports local youngsters in further education.  The neighbouring community of Ardrishaig who are partners in the wind farm, receive a share of income from the wind farm via the Community Trust.  The combined figure for the direct cash benefit to the community now exceeds half a million pounds.
In addition to this “direct” community benefit, Ormsary and Stronachullin Estates who developed the project, are making significant investments in Estate projects involving local tradesmen and suppliers.  This re-cycling of wind farm derived cash helps underpin jobs and businesses in Argyll.
James Lithgow of Ormsary said:  “Allt Dearg has set the gold standard for local community benefit.  We are delighted and proud to share the economic benefits of Allt Dearg with our neighbouring community.  As Argyll struggles with rural depopulation, Allt Dearg demonstrates how local and community ownership of wind farms can help secure jobs and opportunity in economically fragile areas.”
