SSE have completed the local works at Sròndoire, allowing the 6MW Community Wind Farm to power up for the first time. The Vestas construction team will now complete the electrical commissioning in the three 2MW turbines. The wind farm is due to reach full capacity at the end of October.

Sròndoire is the sister community wind farm project to the 10MW Allt Dearg.  The Sròndoire turbines are now connected to SSE's 33kV distribution network and able to import power.  A mains connection allows the Vestas turbine building teams to finish the construction works and commission the electrical equipment in the turbines.  These commissioning works will allow the turbines to look after themselves by turning into the wind automatically to avoid cross wind damage, this is an important factor as equinoxial gales approach.

Generation exports from Sròndoir are curtailed until the end of October when SSE are due to complete the Crossaig to Hunterston subsea crossing and network upgrade.
